Natural pain relief means discovered
About 50 millions of Americans suffer from a condition known as chronic pain. A new research from the University of Indiana shows that our brain has its own resources to cope with pain - cannabis receptors. The substance released by the receptors is called endocannabinoids. It is able to reduce pain without any side effects that are observed in the use of medical marijuana, opioids, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Though currently, the scientists hadn’t discovered how this property of our brains can be used to the full capacity, further research is promising to make us abandon traditional painkillers and instead use our natural resources even if they would need to be amplified or triggered to act with the mechanisms from outside the body.
Cheese can help you live a longer life
A study coming from Austria indicates that certain types of cheese can be beneficial for overall health and contribute to a longer life. The study was based both on mice and then on 800 volunteers from Italy. It was discovered during the study, that the aged cheese that contains the compound called spermidine which is found in blue cheese, is related to longevity in mammals. The observation over the volunteers showed that people who eat a lot of cheese with the active compound have lower blood pressure and are in general less likely to develop a cardiovascular disease and die of a stroke.
Music can alleviate some symptoms in cancer patients
A team from the Drexel University studied more than 3700 cancer patients to find out what impact does music listening has on cancer patients. Perhaps it is not surprising that music had a moderate to strong effect in reducing a patient’s anxiety but the research also found a large treatment benefit in pain reduction and a small to moderate effect for fatigue.
