It is also used for otitis media. The medication is efficient in the treatment of scarlet fever and infections of the lower respiratory tract: pneumonia including atypical or exacerbation of chronic pneumonia and bronchitis; skin and soft tissue infections : erysipelas, impetigo, secondarily infected dermatoses; urinary tract infections caused by Chlamidia trachomatis: gonococcaland nongonococcal urethritis, cervicitis; Lyme disease (initial stage), peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer associated with Helicobacter pylori (in a combination therapy). The medication should be used only in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible pathogens. The susceptibility of the pathogen is identified through susceptibility test.
Can Zithromax cause adverse reactions?
Yes, the drug can cause a variety of adverse reactions. The most common ones are: ingestion, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, vomiting, and cholestatic jaundice. In addition, it can cause constipation, loss of appetite, and candidiasis of the oral mucosa in children. The less common adverse reactions include headache, sleepiness, insomnia, and others. In order to reduce the possibility of certain side effects occurrence, doctors recommend taking along with the antibiotic hepatoprotectors that minimize the negative effect on the liver, antifungal medications to avoid candidiasis development, and medications to cope with intestinal dysbiosis.
Whom the drug is contraindicated?
You should not order Zithromax online if you suffer from an allergy to antibiotics from the class and antibiotics from the class of macrolides. It is also contraindicated for people with kidney or liver failure.
The drug must be also cautiously used by pregnant and nursing women, children and teens under 16 years of age, children with liver or kidney diseases, and patients with arrhythmia. The patients from the mentioned groups should use the drug only under a doctor’s supervision and only if the anticipated effect greatly outweighs the possible negative impact.
With what medicines Zithromax is incompatible?
Alcohol, antacids, and food slow down the absorption of azithromycin. The drug may also influence the effect of warfarin, so the patients who plan to use the drugs at the same time need to get tested more often and take the drugs only under a doctor’s supervision. Combined use of the antibiotic with ergotamine and dihydroergotamine increases the toxic effect. It also slows down the clearance of Triazolam, cycloserine, indirect anticoagulants, methylprednisolone, felodipine and drugs undergoing microsomal oxidation and intensifies their action or toxicity. The drug is fully incompatible with heparin. For more detailed interactions refer to the instruction coming with the drug.
