Urso (Ursodiol) is produced in the form of film-coated tablets for oral use. The active ingredient of the drug is ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). Naturally this component can be found in minor amounts in the bile of a healthy person, more significant quantities occur in the bile of some species of bears. Physically it is a white powder with bitter taste, composed of fully dissolving in ethanol and glacial acetic acid particles. The content of the pill dissolves partially in chloroform, hardly dissolves in ether and almost doesn’t dissolve in water. The active ingredient has the chemical formula C24 H40 O4.
Among the inactive ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate, ethylcellulose, dibutyl sebacate, carnauba wax, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, PEG 3350, PEG 8000, cetyl alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate and hydrogen peroxide.

Besides allergic reactions of your organism, Generic Urso (Ursodiol) can have less serious side effects. If you observe fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, tired feeling, back pain, runny or stuffy nose, cold symptoms or headache, take care to ask your doctor if you can go on using this medicine.
The reactant of the drug or its inactive ingredients may interact with other medications. Some medicines, like antacids, slow down the speed of drug absorption in the body. Taking some other drugs simultaneously can require correction of your prescribed dose or complete quitting using the medicine. Attention should be paid to simultaneous intake of the following drugs: cholestyramine (Questran), colestipol (Colestid), estrogens (birth control pills or their hormone analogues), or antacids that contain aluminum, such as Rolaids, Mylanta, or Maalox.
Urso (Ursodiol) dosage, using by pregnant, children and overdose
The required dose is determined by the physician only. It depends on your particular medical condition. Strictly follow the schedule, period and dosage, prescribed by the doctor. Avoid doubling the dose after having missed the intake time.
Pregnancy Category B. The drug has been clinically tested on animals and proved not to have harmful influence on the fertility or fetus. There is no reliable information on tests with pregnant women. The study of the drug’s effect on reproduction within animals cannot be fully implemented to humans, thus, using by pregnant women requires special consideration.
It is unknown if the medicine is excreted into mother’s milk. The risk of harm through breast milk to a baby is not studied, therefore, ursodeoxycholic acid should be prescribed to breast feeding mothers only if it is certainly needed.
There is no information about pediatric implementation of the drug.
There have not been registered any cases of overdose by Urso (Ursodiol). The higher is the dose of the drug, the lower is its saturation in the body. Still, if you overdosed, call the emergency immediately and have medical treatment. Diarrhea may be one of the symptoms of overdosing.
The drug requires general storage conditions: keep at room temperature, heat, light and moisture protected.
